Announcing the Night's Watch ⚔️

Hey friends, I invite everyone to join :crossed_swords: The Night’s Watch :crossed_swords: . The Night’s Watch is an open community of people who believe in the Graph’s original vision - of an open, permissionless and thriving network for all ecosystem participants.

As you guys know, over the last few months I’ve been hands down building things that I believe matter for the network, but after all I’m just one dude with a laptop and a claude code subscription. I pay more than 250 USD per month to even sustain the projects that I’ve deployed, and trust me I’d love to be able to deploy and maintain ALL data services and tools that I’ve released, but I just don’t have the resources. That doesn’t mean I’ll stop building and maintaining, but I do believe a community will be able to move the needle a lot more, and in a more sustainable manner.

That’s why the Night’s Watch’s mission will be to further develop, harden, test, maintain and ultimately deploy things like:

  • JSON-RPC service
  • Substreams Data Service (communty edition)
  • Solana Data Service (seahorn)
  • camp and camp data service
  • and many more

But we will also fight for decentralizing the network from start to finish. Lodestar already enables functionalities that have previously been reserved only for the Studio and Explorer. But we have to continue to push for that, because centralized, closed services and central points of failure are the exact opposite of the Graph and web3 ideals. We will match and even surpass the Studio and the Explorer’s functionalities and we will ensure the network is open to all, with no gatekeepers and no central point of control/failure.

We will also be vigilant and open GIPs when needed, create educational materials, guides, etc. And of course, we will be indexer-centric. Today, the Indexers are mostly being side-stepped in the decision making process. We will change that.
