Pinax January 2025 Update

:woman_astronaut: Summary

As 2024 drew to a close, Pinax maintained strong momentum through December, advancing key infrastructure components including continued refinements to the Graph Network Registry, which streamlines network configurations and enhances developer workflows across The Graph ecosystem. Our development efforts spanned from exploring AI-powered interfaces to enhanced Graph CLI functionality, all working in concert to make blockchain data increasingly accessible to developers worldwide.
The ongoing expansion of our data centres reflects our readiness to meet the network’s growing demands, as we continue building upon our robust foundation. December’s achievements, particularly in strengthening core tooling and infrastructure, help position us for an ambitious 2025, where we’ll further advance capabilities and enhance the developer experience.
Join us as we explore the technical milestones and community initiatives that marked the final chapter of 2024 and set the stage for the new year ahead.

:tada: Looking back (what was delivered)

Provided infrastructure for chains currently supported on The Graph and to support protocol integration with new chains.

New blockchains for this period:

  • Linea Sepolia Testnet (RPC)
  • Spicy - Chiliz Testnet (RPC)
  • Base op-erigon (now the default RPC client)

Blockchains under testing:

  • Optimism op-erigon
  • IoTex - restoring from iotex team backup

Data Services:

  • Developed a new Grafana dashboard for internal monitoring of metering sync processes. This tool provides visual feedback on events received, errors encountered, and backed-up events, enhancing the ability to troubleshoot and ensure data integrity.
  • Implemented cost visualization features allowing users to track usage in both resource metrics and dollar amounts. This enhancement allows users to monitor their usage across various services and prepare for billing transitions.
  • Developed a snazzy new SQL playground demo app that enables multi-chain blockchain data exploration through natural language queries. This tool features an optional AI assistant that converts conversational prompts into SQL, simplifying the analysis of blocks, transactions, and addresses.
  • Upgraded the Graph CLI by integrating the Graph Network Registry, streamlining the process of developing subgraphs. This major update includes a more user-friendly interface for selecting networks and supports dynamic sourcing for RPC endpoints and start blocks, easing the setup of new subgraphs.

Auxiliary Service Information for this period:

  • We’re making great strides in expanding our data centers, equipping our infrastructure to handle growing demand for more chains and enhanced indexer performance—all while maintaining the rock-solid reliability our users depend on.

Education, onboarding & community support for Indexers and Developers working with new data services

Pinax is continuing to publish summaries of the Indexer Office Hours on our blog every week:

We published 3 additional blog posts with educational and promotional content on The Graph and Firehose & Substreams:

Community events and support:

  • We continue to support the production of The Graph Builders Office Hours events each week with video editing, streaming support and graphic design for promotional assets.
  • We continue to promote the Graph ecosystem on the Pinax X account heavily.
  • Pinax is continuing to support the Vietnamese Community Manager for The Graph.
  • Our Chinese community manager, Eleven, continues to manage The Graph Chinese communities in Telegram, Discord, and WeChat.
  • We continued our ecosystem scan and outreach campaign focusing on Asian communities of newly onboarded chains.

:rocket: Looking ahead (upcoming priorities)

  • Launching the GEO Knowledge Graph hosted service, ensuring infrastructure readiness for upcoming release
  • Finalizing and integrating the Pinax billing system
  • Completing RICE and competitor analysis for Datasets and Token API
  • Continue to expand the Snowflake marketplace integration with additional chain support

Infrastructure & Tooling:

  • Leading maintenance and enhancement of the Graph CLI.
  • Improving the network registry by integrating ongoing feedback.
  • Optimizing indexer performance and scalability through architectural enhancements.
  • Contributing to Launchpad development with new Helm charts and chain client testing.

Community & Documentation:

  • Engaging in cross-core developer business development alignment.
