Edge & Node’s November/December 2024 Update

:woman_astronaut: Executive Summary

November marked significant milestones in The Graph’s journey toward greater network utility, adoption and decentralization. The Graph grows in broader support across more ecosystems, marked by the integration of Solana devnet, Lens testnet, and other new chains. In a major development, the GRT token was successfully deployed to Base, enabling seamless movement of GRT between Base and mainnet. The month was also distinguished by extensive ecosystem engagement at major industry events like Devcon — during which The Graph ecosystem side event Datapalooza included talks from Edge & Node teammates. In Latin America, teammates attended Labitconf and shared insights and gathered valuable feedback from developers, chains, and Indexers. Technical progress continued with important protocol enhancements, new chain integrations, and preparations for upcoming protocol evolution proposals.

Notable November Accomplishments:

Protocol Advances

  • New releases across core components:
    • Graph Node v0.36.0
    • Multiple Indexer releases (v0.21.7-9) with significant improvements, such as increased support for Substreams, implementation of a new IPFS client, pagination support to allocation queries and more
  • GRT has been successfully deployed to Base! While the protocol itself remains on Arbitrum One, users can now easily transfer GRT between Base and mainnet using superchain bridges
  • Launched of subgraph deletion and deprecation capabilities directly within Studio
  • Received initial report from Trust Security for the Graph Horizon audit, with the team actively implementing fixes
  • Completed force-closure of all remaining L1 protocol allocations, ensuring proper reward distribution
  • Advanced development of Indexing Payments (DIPs) with comprehensive gas experiments to inform pricing models

Studio and Explorer Evolution

  • Added support for new chains including Solana devnet and Lens testnet
  • Enhanced user communications with ENS integration in automated emails
  • Improved billing notifications and Safe transaction handling
  • Added Blockscout integration for Gnosis subgraphs in Explorer
  • Implemented developer newsletter signup prompts during Studio account creation

Network Growth and Integration

  • Launched integration with Lens Network
  • Successfully integrated with Blockscout
  • Deployed new gateway release (v25.0.0) featuring /blocklist route to help indexers monitor deployment impacts
  • Enhanced IPFS client implementation and Firehose integration
  • Improved allocation management with new pagination support
