Executive Summary
Edge & Node had a remarkable September, demonstrating progress across multiple fronts, from protocol evolution and engineering to business development and community outreach. Notably, we made substantial technical strides in protocol upgrades, network trust minimization, and user interface enhancements while broadening our reach through integrating new chains into Subgraph Studio, boosting co-creator engagement at the House of Web3, and hosting events. Due to efforts throughout the ecosystem, The Graph Network closed out Q3 with a 104% increase in query volume over Q2. This report covers the key accomplishments, challenges, and upcoming goals, showcasing Edge & Node’s commitment to expanding The Graph’s influence and driving web3 forward with an unbreakable foundation of data.
Notable September Accomplishments:
Protocol Advancements & Indexing Payments
- The first Graph Horizon audit fixes are complete! We have drastically increased test coverage in preparation for the second audit
- Several improvements have been made to ISA implementation, driving progress towards a robust system for Direct Indexer Payments
- Multiple Indexers now collect query fees via TAP (Time Aggregation Protocol), representing a milestone for trust-minimized operation of the Network!
- Indexers are encouraged to migrate to the
indexer-rs
indexing setup ahead of Indexer Service (TypeScript) deprecation this quarter
- Indexers are encouraged to migrate to the
Engineering Improvements for All Participants
- As a final corollary to the Sunrise of Decentralized Data, all developers who tested their app’s data pipeline using Subgraph Studio have migrated to the Network’s free tier
- We relaunched a simplified delegation pane on Explorer to lend extra clarity to Network participation
- Both Studio and Graph Explorer users will reap continuing benefits from a rebuilt wallet connection library that will enable new features to come to production faster
- Improved support for auto-downloading graft dependencies
- Collaborated with Semiotic for further integration between
indexer-rs
andindexer-agent
Expanding Technical and Educational Reach
- Major new integrations with Chiliz, Starknet, and other chains led to us exceeding our original Q3 chain integration goal - 9 chains in total were added last quarter, and you can search for subgraphs on all of them in Graph Explorer.
- We amplified the successful completion of Blast and Fuse’s Chain Integration Process, marking full network support status.
- We promoted and received press for new tools and resources to access data on Solana.
- House of Web3 hosted a total of 5 events and 5 off-sites for other companies. We collaborated with ETH Global SF to co-market events during SF Tech Week and beyond. Check out the upcoming House of Web3 events here.
- Our team led workshops globally, engaging developers across multiple ETHGlobal events, including ETHGlobal Singapore, ETH Warsaw, and EDCON in Tokyo. We also engaged with developers at local hackathons, including Web3 Accra and Korea Blockchain Week. Presentations covered full-stack dApp development, subgraph extension of Scaffold-ETH, and more.
What’s Next:
- Integrate 10 new chains, aiming for 90% integration with RaaS providers
- Host two workshops series for H.E.R. DAO and Web3 Accra, both highlighting the Scaffold-ETH subgraph extension
- Participate in ETHGlobal San Francisco with a Hackathon Prep Brunch and full-stack development workshops, plus deliver talks and workshops at ETH KL
- Publish an educational series focused on core developers and CIP (Chain Integration Process)
- Improve discoverability of chain documentation to position The Graph as the go-to solution for on-chain data
- Improve website and social media discoverability to reach new audiences
- Begin refactoring Studio’s billing backend to simplify the developer experience and allow faster iteration on new features in the future
- Continue development towards an MVP of Indexing Payments (DIPs) alongside gas/pricing model analysis, followed by smart contract implementation
- Begin the second audit cycle for Horizon and start collaborating with various teams for off-chain changes to enable deployment
- Explore the integration of a Knowledge Graph data service within The Graph’s technical stack, with an emphasis on holistic alignment
