Pinax November 2024 Update

:woman_astronaut: Summary

The Pinax team drove key innovations forward this October!
From expanding The Graph’s reach across new chains like Arbitrum One and Chiliz to strengthening core infrastructure with enhanced monitoring and backup systems, we delivered solutions that make blockchain data more accessible and reliable. Our team dove deep into performance optimization, rolling out improvements that help indexers serve data more efficiently while connecting with the community through tutorials, office hours, and live events. Read on for a detailed look at this month’s developments and initiatives!

:tada: Looking back (what was delivered)

New blockchains for this period:

  • Arbitrum One (firehose substream DNS update)
  • opBNB & BobaBNB (firehose/substream endpoints)
  • Uni Sepolia (RPC/firehose/substream endpoint)
  • Chiliz (node + DNS update)
  • Avalanche Testnet Fuji (RPC)

Blockchains under testing:

  • Rootstock (RPC)
  • Scroll Sepolia (RPC)
  • Etherlink
  • Blast

Firehose Implementations:

  • Created Firehose implementation for Avalanche, enabling Firehose block creation and data streaming capabilities for Avalanche chains.
Provided infrastructure for chains currently supported on The Graph and to support protocol integration with new chains.

Raw Blocks Substreams:

Supported Network Registry:

  • Launched the Supported Network Registry initiative to unify and standardize chain configurations across The Graph tools with automated validation.
  • Progressing on Sourcify integration to improve contract verification coverage via ABI data. Substreams are in development to address gaps in EVM deployment records for comprehensive on-chain data tracking.

Cosmos Subgraphs on The Graph:

EOS and WAX Substreams-Powered-Subgraphs on The Graph:

  • Created the Antelope Transactions Substreams-powered-Subgraph (SpS), providing comprehensive tracking of transactions, decoded actions, and database operations across Antelope networks. The following dApps are using such SpS:

Auxiliary Service Information for this period:

  • Blockchain infrastructure saw improvements across Moonbeam, Moonriver, OpBNB, and BSC Chapel, including the implementation of Erigon3. New archive nodes were added for Ronin and other networks, with expanded capacity enhancing performance and access to historical data.
  • Enhanced RPC proxy performance through improved request routing and usage monitoring dashboards.
  • Monitoring systems improved with Victoria Metrics integration and refined Grafana dashboards. Monitoring was extended to substreams, NOOP metrics, and high-query subgraphs, while Postgres tuning optimized multiple sharded instances.
  • Backup processes were streamlined with faster cycles and cleaner operations, alongside system-wide security updates and kernel patches.
  • On datacenter operations, significant improvements were made to hardware infrastructure through the setup of new equipment, along with the addition of the Foundry test lab at the Riverside datacenter, enhancing testing capabilities and infrastructure reliability.
  • Implemented Kafka-based message queuing for durable metering event tracking, ensuring data persistence during service interruptions.
  • Developed APIs and subgraphs to replace legacy systems, enabling structured access to token data and dApp interactions.
  • Built a streamlined Kubernetes deployment toolkit that takes indexers from zero to production-ready in minutes, powered by kind and Flux CD—replacing manual configuration headaches with automated, version-controlled infrastructure management. Key capabilities were showcased in episode 180 of Indexer Office Hours.

Education, onboarding & community support for Indexers and Developers working with new data services

Pinax is continuing to publish summaries of the Indexer Office Hours on our blog every week:

We published 4 additional blog posts with educational and promotional content on The Graph and Firehose & Substreams:

Community events and support:

  • Pinax team member Andrew Ware promoted Firehose, Substreams, and The Graph at ETH San Francisco
  • We continue to support the production of The Graph Builders Office Hours each week. As an additional service item, we have produced video shorts for BOH #61, BOH #60 and BOH #59 which all are shared on the GraphDevs X Account.
  • In Indexer Office Hours #181 Pinax team member, Guillaume Cléroux, gave a demo about our Kubernetes Setup and shared valuable insights and best practices with The Graph Indexer community.
  • We continue to promote The Graph ecosystem on the Pinax X account heavily.
  • After hosting the Graph On Campus event on Oct 13th in Shanghai our team reviewed event footage to post on social media and to promote the event series to Student Blockchain Associations of Chinese Universities.
  • Pinax is continuing to support the Vietnamese Community Manager for The Graph.
  • Our Chinese community manager, Eleven, continues to manage The Graph Chinese communities in Telegram, Discord, and WeChat.
  • We continued our ecosystem scan and outreach campaign focusing on Asian communities of newly onboarded chains.
