Know Your Indexer #27 | Deutsche Telekom

Know Your Indexer, it’s a segment that allows you to get to know and feel closer to your favorite Indexer. As we grow, more indexers are joining our ecosystem for to helping the healthy growth of the community. In this month’s segment we have the honor to present Deutsche Telekom

Deustche Telekom interview

Zuni:

  1. Team background

Telekom team: Since 2018, we’ve been actively shaping the Web3 infrastructure landscape. We pioneered oracle data solutions for Chainlink, securing dApps and enhancing the value of Web3 services. As Proof-of-Stake protocols gained traction, we expanded our portfolio to include staking infrastructure for Polkadot, Ethereum, Q, Celo, Flow, Polygon, MultiversX, and Aleph Zero. Our commitment to innovation drives us to continuously explore new opportunities in this space. We’re thrilled to announce our first indexer on The Graph, further solidifying our dedication to Web3 advancements.

Zuni:

  1. When was the first time you heard about the graph and why did you decide to get involved in the project?

Telekom team: From early on, we supported innovative Web3 protocols not only from the infrastructure side, but also on the application side. After our first oracle services on Chainlink went live, it was clear for us to look out for other opportunities regarding reliable data in Web3. With recent hacks due to centralized, unsecure data - like flashloan attacks, it was our clear goal to support decentralized subgraphs to provide reliable data sources. So in 2023 we decided to launch an Indexing Service to further secure dApps and Web3 Services.

Zuni:

  1. How many indexers participate in the network? Do you plan to integrate others in the future?

Telekom team: We run an indexer on ArbitrumOne indexing subgraphs for Ethereum mainnet, but we’re constantly looking to expand our subgraph capabilities to other networks.

Zuni:

  1. In addition to indexers, does your team have other members who participate in different roles in the network? (and their experience, if they want)

Telekom team: No, we are currently focussing on running indexers at Deutsche Telekom for TheGraph. However our Team consists of many Graph enthusiasts who are writing Subgraphs and participate in many Community organized events.

Zuni:

  1. Which blockchain networks are you excited to index for The Graph?

Telekom team: We generally try to synergize with our other product offerings. If we can combine our existing node infrastructure with providing indexing services, it would be a win-win situation for everyone. Right now we’re also having a look at Polygon and Celo, because we already are participating in the active set.

Zuni:

  1. What do you like the most about being part of this project and how do you contribute to its growth?

Telekom team: The most rewarding aspect of being part of this project is the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of Web3. Our Deutsche Telekom Web3 Unit plays a crucial role in providing infrastructure and solutions that empower individuals and organizations to interact with the decentralized web. One of our key contributions is our NFT marketplace, which facilitates secure and user-friendly transactions of digital assets. Our collaboration with The Graph further strengthens our offerings by providing reliable and decentralized data access, enhancing security and reducing reliance on centralized data silos. By leveraging the power of subgraphs enabled by The Graph protocol, we are able to deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of the Web3 ecosystem.

Zuni:

  1. What integration to the network would you like to see in the future?

Telekom team: I would love to see a more simple economic model for the indexers that prioritizes quality over quantity. Right now TheGraph is empowering Web3 Data, but it would be a great step to also integrate Web2 solutions to further increase adoption and growth of the ecosystem.

Zuni:

  1. What do you think about the Advocates program? How would you motivate the community to participate in the Advocates program?

Telekom team: The Advocates program has a far global outreach. Its an amazing program which includes local events and Community building. It is already reaching Developers worldwide spreading awareness and education towards the whole ecosystem. We got great support by Developer Advocates when we were initially launching our first indexer node. The Advocates Discord is a great way to get in contact - there is a high level of engagement and activity.

Zuni:

  1. What are your opinions about the recent migration to Arbitrum as L2?

Telekom team: Generally I think it makes sense to outsource the computation to a more efficient layer. The bridging to Arbitrum still entails some amount of risk for indexer funds, so a more sophisticated setup would have been to keep the funds on the Ethereum mainnet and just outsource necessary operation logic to the Arbitrum network.
It is a very cost-effective solution, because transactions fees on Arbitrium L2 are negligible compared to Ethereum. Due to this, we are able to update our allocations very quickly and are able to index new and better subgraphs whenever they launch.

Zuni:

  1. Why should delegators choose you? How do you create bonds of communication and trust between them and you?

Telekom team: Our team of experienced developers and our proven track record in managing enterprise-grade infrastructure make us a reliable choice for delegators. Our nodes are maintained 24/7 on a multi-cloud setup, ensuring redundancy and uninterrupted service. We maintain a flawless history with no slashing events and are committed to upholding the highest standards of security and reliability. We actively engage with our community through events, social media interactions, and ongoing efforts to enhance delegator rewards like reducing our reward cut rate.
